New project for County Down: Northern Ireland

Down District Council is the latest organisation to join the network making it the third Community RePaint project in Northern Ireland. Paint will be collected and redistributed at the Bann Road facility in Castlewellan which is managed by the district council.

Down Council’s Assistant Education Officer Andrew McCann said ‘while the recycling centres have been recycling empty paint tins for some time now, experience has shown that many of the tins sent for recycling have been more than half full of useable paint. Treating this paint is expensive and hazardous, so it makes sense to use as much of it as possible.’

Anyone wishing to donate paint should contact the site attendants for assistance.

Community group leaders or charity workers interested in obtaining paint should contact Down District Council Environmental Services on 028 4461 0819.
